A note on The Cre8 Youth Music Concert - 20th December at St Barnabas...
What an amazing night. Nearly two hours of performances, fourteen pieces of music and songs, with some of the best pieces written by the performers in front of us. This was young people expressing themselves in music with adults taking second place. The emotion and feeling in the singing was electric, our music tutor's husband told me he and his wife had travelled up and down the country performing and teaching music for many years and they had never seen young people singing with such expression and feeling - and at such a high standard. Some of the songs were sad - but they were very real, you felt as though you were hearing and seeing what their world was really like. These are young people who have very real rubbish happening to them, who you wouldn't normally expect to see on a stage, but they were all just fantastic. There were some very proud people sitting in front of them. If one of the performers stumbled then we all got round them, shouted, clapped and applauded until they got up again - lots of smiles and lots of teary eyes. And it wasn't just about singing, we had drummers, guitarists and keyboarders, sometimes solo, sometimes playing together. Some had been playing for years, some only for months. We loved them all. I feel very pleased to be part of all this - our music team are brilliant. They just want to see the young people expressing themselves in music. It's not easy work, but nights like tonight must make it worthwhile. All I did was make the tea : )
