Our Music Trainee Oliver Gibson composed the score for the award winning short film 'A Question of Time'. You can view the film at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ve1O8u8uM30&list=PL63F61719787C6B39
Congratulations Ollie, well done. The One to One project likes to try new things and today Tom and Max have been experimenting with flying eggs. The challenge was to create a way for some little eggs (laid by the wonderful chickens at the House) to slowly and safely float down from the upstairs window of the House to the concrete floor below. Max went for the bouncing ball option; Tom created a glider - see the results of their creations below... Taking five young people from the Cre8 Music project to Greenbelt Festival was a massive success. Days were spent wandering round the festival - checking out some of the amazing performances, acts, talks and art that happens at Greenbelt.
The experience was pretty different to anything any of them had been to before but they all really got into the spirit of Greenbelt and went to things they probably wouldn't normally consider going anywhere near. The Silent Disco was a big hit (weirdest thing I've been to!), Aaron enjoyed the Iona Community Big Sing and a talk about football(?). Black Rebel Motorcycle Club was loud but fun. The Boxettes were amazing - we all stood watching them with mouths open going 'nah she can't be making all those noises - no way'! Folk On were bonkers as always, and the food stalls were amazing (if expensive!) The 'official' Cre8 trip also met up and camped with folks from Cre8 and Camas who were taking time off and enjoying the festival. Thanks to them for cooking and helping out with the group. Definitely think we'll take a group again next year - hopefully with some families as well. Thanks to Tom for organising (and doing some interesting food shopping!) In July 2013, we published our latest Annual Report.
The report is more than just a overview of the past 12 months; it's packed full of stories about young people and adults who've been involved with Cre8 and the journeys they have made. From messy beginnings to hope for the future, Cre8 is about making change happen, and the report shows how we do this. You can read about the range of clubs we run and how some of the young people that once attended are now coming back as young adult volunteers, full of energy and enthusiasm and helping to make the project sustainable. Our One to One project has grown massively over the past 18 months, and we are now an important provider of alternative education for young people struggling in schools. Work experience through our RD project is a valuable part of our work and feeds into our social enterprise Cre8 Works. Young people get a taste of the world of work and learn valuable skills that will help them into employment later in life. And they have lots of fun doing it! Within Offbeat the music project has thrived thanks to the funding we secured from Youth Music. The recording suite at the Building is used throughout the week for the benefit of young people. Cre8 Works is looking to expand it's work, especially now that we have a full time Supervisor to organise work teams and schedules, as well as supervise the young adults we employ. There is lots more to read in the report - You can view the full report here. We hope you enjoy reading it as much as we enjoyed putting it together! All photos included in the report were taken by workers, volunteers and young people at Cre8 - no stock photos were used. The report was designed and put together by us. |
