DECEMBER / NOVEMBER 2017 Welcome to our Winter Warmer update... bursting with inspiring stories from people in our neighbourhood, our upcoming events, awards, annual reports and lots of things to get you feeling warm and fuzzy for Christmas! CRE8'S ANNUAL REPORT 2017 Hot off the press! Our 2017 Annual Report has just been published... you can view the full report here >> We're very proud of this years report - some great stories from our youth projects, lots of cracking photos, and quotes from supporters, young people, families and customers. The Report is 'homemade'; that is we design, produce, write, proof-read and take all the photos ourselves using the skills we have. A great achievement. Enjoy! RISING STAR AWARD Cre8 was recognised with a special ‘Rising Star’ award at the spectacular North West Charity Awards In October. Cre8 was given the award for punching above its weight in the ‘Small Charity Big Impact’ category. Other finalists in the category included charities representing the best from across the North West, so this is a fantastic achievement for everyone involved with Cre8, which is now in its 12th year of supporting young people and families from the Moss Rose Estate in Macclesfield. The inaugural North West Charity Awards ceremony took place at Manchester’s impressive Midland Hotel. This was a red carpet event where the Cre8 table included volunteers, trustees, workers and young adults, who gathered to celebrate the great work of the thousands of charities and non-profit organisations across the North West of England. Collecting the Award on the night, Cre8’s Director Rob Wardle said “I am hugely proud of all the people who've been involved in Cre8 since we started 12 years ago - our small faith-based community project on the Moss Rose Estate in Macclesfield. This award is absolutely unexpected for us at an event full of amazing big-hitting charities.” Cre8 also gained the top award for Creamline Dairies in the Outstanding Business Supporters category. Creamline’s partnership with Cre8 helps to support young people and young adults into employment and give them direct work experience in the commercial world, whilst also providing income for the Cre8 charity. Cre8’s aim of Faith: Change: Community is targeted at empowering young people and adults in the local area to make change happen for themselves and for their local neighbourhood of the Moss Rose Estate in Macclesfield. WHAT WE'VE BEEN UP TO...
CONGRATULATIONS ADAM! We recently said farewell to Adam. He's got a new job working as a recovery driver - something he's always wanted to do. Adam started with us about 3 years ago working as a young person on Cre8 Facilities (our social enterprise) washing vehicles. He's been a team leader for the last couple of years and done a fantastic job leading our work with Creamline. And he's recently become a father! Congratulations Adam - you'll be missed but we're very pleased for you 😁😁😁 This is what it's all about. GIVEAWAY DONATIONS Calling all our wonderful supporters We are planning a ‘Food Giveaway’ at the Community Christmas Feast at St Barnabas Church on the 22nd of December. Following the incredible response at previous giveaways we realise how important it is for so many, so close to Christmas. If you are able to donate items (see below) please get in touch with Cre8 on 01625 503740
We really do appreciate your support for the young people of the Moss Rose Estate and their families. DATES FOR YOUR DIARY...
We are especially grateful to all the kind people who publicise our upcoming events through their churches, groups, workplace, social media and family & friends. If you're able to - please do include the events listed above in any notices / displays / leaflets - and help us spread the word! Volunteers are at the heart of Cre8. They make things happen, and they share their passion and time. It is hugely valuable to a young person to have an adult who will sit and chat with them about their day. We welcome volunteers of any age, background or experience.
Right now, Cre8 specifically need new volunteers to help with ART and CRAFT activities, COOKING and GAMES/SPORTS at our youth clubs which run on Tuesdays 6-8.30pm and Wednesdays 5-7.30pm (which includes setup/close down time). Our youth clubs run in term time. If you can regularly give a few hours of your time, please phone us on 01625 503740 or email hello@cre8macclesfield.org Volunteering isn't just about giving, it's so much more, have a look here: http://www.cre8macclesfield.org/volunteering.html

Hello! We hope you've had a cracking summer and are looking forward to the treats of Autumn and Harvest! This is what we've been up to over the last few months and the exciting things we're looking forward to... including some important dates for your diaries... In this newsletter you will find... The next Youth Music Concert | Macc Half & 5K | Camas Trip 2017 | Plant Sale | Changing Chairs | NorthWest Charity Awards | Music Recordings | Road to Wigan Pier | and some great photos! Cre8's Music Concert Celebrates Local Talent Our most recent Concert on 22nd July at the United Reformed Church in Macclesfield town centre, saw performances from Cre8’s talented young musicians and showcased the achievements of young people involved with the highly acclaimed music project on the Moss Rose Estate. Cre8’s music project established in 2011, enables young people from the Moss Rose Estate to develop music-making skills, where there may be limited opportunities for them to do so elsewhere. In 2017 this work has expanded to include the delivery of nationally recognised vocational qualifications in music. This concert was the opportunity for young people to show off their talents in music performance and they did not disappoint! The varied programme of pop, rock, grime, chilled acoustic and a bit of classical provided something for an audience of all ages and musical tastes. Young people played piano, guitar, bass, drums, ukulele as well as singing and rapping, with some highly technical performances. A comment from a member of the audience “What an honour and privilege to watch these young people perform. Their talent, their respect and love for their music and each other is inspiring... it was beautiful.” The development of the young people on their musical journeys was clear, with a special finale featuring a young person, who learnt to sing at Cre8 four years ago and has just received a special award following her first year at the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts. Tom, who oversees Cre8's Music project, said “The young people have been working for months on their performances and stage presence so to see that materialise in such a fantastic way on Saturday was very special. They work really hard in challenging circumstances and they certainly pulled it off tonight! As a team of music leaders we couldn’t be prouder of their achievements. It’s now time to look towards October, which will be a completely different experience for these young people, and such an honour to perform with a well-known choir.” Cre8 Music’s next concert on 14th October at St Michael’s Church in the Marketplace, will be a special fundraising evening in conjunction with the fantastic Laurence Singers based in Cheadle Hulme. This ticketed event is sure to be very popular featuring a lively programme from the choir and special joint performances with Cre8. What's been happening...
Camas Residential August 2017 We took a large group of 16 young people aged 11-16 - some of whom have not been away from home before, to the Iona Community's Camas Centre - offering outdoor activities and community living on the Isle of Mull. The trip was incredible. Some challenges, lows and difficulties that come with living together away from home and having to learn to get along, and take part in everything - including the chores to keep the community running smoothly (like washing up and cleaning the loos). Some big highs as well; coasteering around the bay, sailing, swimming, bog-jumping and being in the spectacular Scottish wildness. Memorable moments included: a grumpy hike in defiant dressing gowns (perfect outerwear for a hike in Scotland!), being stopped on the road by large highland cows ("are they real?"), charging into the sea in pouring rain, to escape horrific midges, and sitting up till 2am trying to persuade angry young people to go to sleep instead of fighting. Thank you To the wonderful supporters of Cre8 who so generously donated just over £2,100 towards the cost of this year's Camas residential. You have helped 16 young people make memories and sow seeds of change that will last a lifetime. Many blessings x For regular updates and stories, follow us on social media and check out our website - it's awesome. facebook.com/Cre8Macclesfield @Cre8Macc www.cre8macclesfield.org Dates for your diary this Autumn...
We are especially grateful to all the kind people who publicise our upcoming events through their churches, groups, workplace, social media and family & friends. If you're able to - please do include the events listed above in any notices / displays / leaflets - and help us spread the word! The Cre8 programme on the Moss Rose Estate was alive with music, art, stories, food and celebrations during their recent Festival to celebrate young people and community and 10 years of Cre8. The theme for the week was True Light.
Activities included: a Youth Music Event at St Michaels Church - run and featuring performances by young people from the Cre8 project; storytelling at The Park Tavern on the theme of ‘Light’; community games evening, free lunches and opportunities to meet the Cre8 team; a local business supporters evening; and reopening of the community wildlife area. The finale of the Festival was a Hog Roast and celebration evening showcasing Cre8’s activities over the last year. The Festival was very much a community event, organised and run by young people, adults and families involved with the Cre8 project over the last 10 years. The week of activities – held from 11th – 17th June - was enjoyed by over 250 people, including David Rutley MP, Lord Lieutenant David Briggs MBE, High Sheriff of Cheshire Kathy Cowell OBE, and the Mayor of Macclesfield Cllr Alift Harewood-Jones. To find out more about Cre8 and how you can make a difference in your local community visit www.cre8macclesfield.org On Good Friday, we created a 'Way of the Cross' exhibition based on the War in Syria. We created twelve Stations of the Cross around St Barnabas using images from the Syrian War, and also a central art installation inspired by ideas from young people at Cre8. The Church was open from 10am till 4pm - no service - just a quiet space for people to come and view the installation and have some quiet space to reflect. It was a very moving and powerful scene - thank you to all involved. Below are some images from the installation and we've also produced a short booklet showing the 12 stations / images and the reflections to accompany each station. Download the booklet: Way of the Cross - the War in Syria by clicking here Some of the comments we've had...A special exhibition for Good Friday, much appreciated by me and my dad. thank you for setting it up. Last night we had a 'Camas Reunion' at Club! John and Abbie from Camas came down and joined us for the evening, and a few of the Cre8 leaders that went to Camas came along, as well as most of the young people who went on the trip. We looked at photos projected on the wall of Church and remembered all the things we did - kayaking, playing guitar, boat trips, king of the ring, food, and fishing. Lots and lots of good memories.
We as leaders presented each young person with a framed photo collage of their time at Camas. Each young person came up, shook our hands and received a big round of applause from their peers. It was really important for us to give the young people something like this; a reminder of those great memories and shared experiences, and something to keep hold off. We always try and do this at our projects. And then we sat down and shared a 'Camas style' meal together. We had homemade sweet potato soup, homemade bread and homemade apple crumble and custard. All made that afternoon with help from some of the older young people that came with us to Camas this year (we have never peeled so many apples!) And then we did our chores - we washed up together. Thanks to Abbie and John for joining us for the evening, and to everyone who helped cook and prepare for the night. Good to remember and a great atmosphere - it felt just like it did in the summer at Camas. We are a group that has shared an experience together and that will stay with us :) Macclesfield & District Lions recently donated £1,000 to support the work of the Cre8 youth and community project on the Moss Rose Estate in Macclesfield. Chesney Orme, President of the 'Macc Lions', came along to Cre8 Club for primary school aged young people, to explain about the Lions organisation and the work they support.
Macc Lions, a voluntary group, has been running for the past 40 years and raises around £18,000 a year to support groups and activities across the district. Cre8 is a Macclesfield-based charity that provides projects and activities for young people and their families. Their work is aimed towards empowering young people and adults in the local area to make change happen for themselves and also for their local neighbourhood. Have a look through the photos from the activities during the Festival week, see if you can find yourself, and if you weren't there - well why?!! Make sure you're there next time! |
