Recordings from Cre8 Music

This page is full of recordings from music-making activities with young people at the Cre8 Music project.

Now in its 8th year, Cre8 Music enables multi-talented young musicians in Macclesfield to express their talents through music. Our young people come along to drop-in sessions to gain skills in playing drums, piano, guitar, singing and even ukulele! They also benefit from having their very own music studio and live room where they learn how to use technology to be creative, practise together and produce their own tracks. We also hold annual concerts to showcase their achievements and perform in front of friends and family.

Some of the recordings here feature support from Cre8 Music tutors and support workers past and present. A special thanks goes to these talented individuals! Their skills are invaluable and inspire our young people to be as creative as they can.

Check out this page for the latest examples of our young people’s boundless creativity!
Online Winter Youth Music Concert
We have rounded off this term with our Online Winter Youth Music Concert. It’s a nice way to end the project’s year with closure and look forward to different ways of working in the next. Our young people and music team have worked incredibly hard to get it together and it was great to be able to showcase this work for everyone to see in a way that was safe to all.
Online Summer Youth Music Concert
Our Summer Youth Music Concert is an annual event here at Cre8 and is something which staff and young people alike look forward to. However, with lockdown regulations, a live performance was not feasible this year.

Due to this, we moved this year’s concert online and streamed it live at 7pm on Friday July 31st.  We'd like to say a huge thank you to all our music team and young people who worked tirelessly to put this together. It was truly a testimony to the amazing talent we have here at Cre8. Well done everyone!
Cre8 Come Together
In the lead up to our Summer Youth Music Concert, this year being held online, here's a brilliant rendition of Come Together from our amazingly talented music team, with new lyrics specially written for our young people!
Cre8 Online Music Jam Session - French Tea

In this session we were thinking about things that have been keeping everyone going during lockdown, and brews came out on top. Here's some music inspired by the sound of a cuppa!
Cre8 Online Music Jam Session - Ice Cream Dream

This week, our theme was sounds of summer holidays. Including sun cream spray, ring pulls clicking, and ukuleles strumming in the breeze. As ever, ideas, sounds and music were produced by our fantastically talented young people.
Cre8 Online Music Jam Session - Gloomy Zoom Doom

We've all experienced technical problems doing activities online during the lockdown. We thought it might be nice to compile some of them here to a backing made by young people's keyboard clicks and Zoom alert noises.
Cre8 Online Music Jam Session - Questions for Society

Inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement, our young people had a fascinating conversation about society's issues. This developed into a piece of collaborative music that includes some serious (and not so serious) questions about why stuff happens.
Cre8 Online Music Jam Session - Sam's Remix

The latest installation from our Cre8 Online Music Jam Session! A Latin feel to this week's music jam, amazingly edited and remixed by the super-talented Sam!
Cre8 Online Music Jam Session 4 - Cheesecake Blues

Another amazing track from our Cre8 Online Music Jam Sessions! Played and sung by the young people involved, with inspiration from Alisha's live cheesecake disaster!
Cre8 Online Music Jam Session 3

Here's a third instalment from our online music jam sessions! This track follows the theme of the weather, and was put together using our young peoples recordings.
Cre8 Online Music Jam Session 2 - 'Locked Down'

Here is another amazing track produced during one of our online music jam sessions. Using audio clips sent in by our young people, these clips were transformed into a track to fit the theme of lockdown!
Cre8 Online Music Jam Session 1

The amazing result of our first Cre8 online music jam! This piece of music was recorded, edited, and produced entirely by our talented young people who contributed noises, instruments, and vocals.

Frankie (12) Vocals & Ukelele for 'I don't know my name' by Grace Vanderwaal

Frankie's first solo performance - she's a natural entertainer! A very proud moment for her and her family.
Leila (17) and the Cre8 'House Band' performing 'I'm No Good' by Amy Winehouse

Live performance at the Cre8 Summer Music Concert - July 2017 at the United Reformed Church in Macclesfield

A very special treat to close the summer concert - Leila came back and performed with the Cre8 Music Tutors - the same musicians who have nurtured her talent over the past 4 years since she first came along to drop-in sessions.
Leila is now studying at Liverpool's Institute of Performing Arts and passed her first year top of the school. An incredible achievement for her. Leila has overcome some real challenges and big traumas over the past few years and music has been her rock throughout. And she brought the house down with this performance. Go Leila!
Casey (13) performing 'Treat me like Somebody' by Tink

Live performance at the Cre8 Music Festival - April 2017 at St Barnabas Church

To think Casey almost gave up singing a little while ago! And, our young people are now supporting each others' performances by playing in the band -Amy on drums and Matt on bass. Incredible that these young people are learning a variety of skills and instruments.

'Light in My Heart' - an original song written, played and sung by Paris (11)
 - June 2016

The full studio recording can be listened to by clicking on play button above.
Paris has been coming to various Cre8 projects since she was 9 and the Music project has become the place for Paris to express herself. She's creative, imaginative and driven. She works through her music theory and is always asking for more. Part of Cre8's own Music Accreditation Award involves young people writing their own lyrics and melody and this was Paris' piece (she has many more as well!). As you can imagine it takes great courage to perform your own music to a large audience - but Paris did just that at the December Cre8 Concert! And she's flying through he grade exams - drums, piano and vocals.
Lauren (15) vocals & Dylan (17) guitar - Rixton's 'Hotel Ceiling'
- December 2015
The full studio recording can be listened to by clicking on play button above.
The Cre8 Music project is so often the 'safe place' for our young people in what can be chaotic or traumatic lives. We find this has a positive impact on school engagement - with music becoming 'their subject' - something they can do well in and express themselves. Our music tutors support them in this - helping with GCSE pieces, homework etc, and our youthworkers support them with the difficulties and challenges outside of this.
Emma (10) & Summer (9) vocals - Bars & Melody's 'Hopeful'
- December 2015
The full studio recording can be listened to by clicking on play button above.
These two girls are incredible and their potential in music is astounding! When this was recorded they had only just begun their music journey. Their performance of this track at the Cre8 Music Concert in December 2015 was the first time they had ever performed to an audience.
Emma is brilliant at rapping and her confidence is growing and growing. She's just passed her first vocal exam with a merit - wow!
Ehren (12) singing Ella Eyre's 'We don't have to take our clothes off'

Live performance at the Cre8 Music Concert - December 2015 at St Michaels Church in Macclesfield

The full studio recording can be listened to by clicking on play button below.
Shannon (15) vocals, Owen (13) guitar, Amy (14) piano, Casey (12) drums -  'Wings' by Birdy
~ December 2015
The full studio recording can be listened to by clicking on play button above.
This was the first track solely involving young people from Cre8 Music in their own band; there are no Cre8 tutors featured on the track! A fantastic achievement for this group of young people. We are very proud.
Casey (11) performing her own original song 'Stuck Together'
- January 2014
The full studio recording can be listened to by clicking on play button above.
This song, titled 'Stuck Together' was written by Casey. It's the first piece she wrote and it's about friendship, hope, and being there for one another when bad things happen.
Sam (10) vocals - Birdy's 'Skinny Love'
~ February 2014
The full studio recording can be listened to by clicking on play button above.
Sam (10) - singing her own orginal song 'Scream'
- October 2013
The full studio recording can be listened to by clicking on play button above.
Sam wrote this song by herself and recorded it in the music recording studio up at the Building. She has a real talent and it's great that she stays involved with the music project and is keen to keep working on her songs.
