Volunteering

Secondary Club night at St Barnabas Church
Volunteers are at the heart of Cre8. We welcome volunteers of any age, background or experience. The most important thing for a Cre8 volunteer is to be able to listen to young people about whatever they want to talk about and not to judge. Enthusiasm, patience and a passion for 'something', be it bike riding or flying model aeroplanes, are really important qualities.

Volunteers work on all our PROJECTS - running crafts at clubs, taking a one to one session with a young person, or helping someone learn to play an instrument.

"If you want your Tuesday / Wednesday night brightening up come and join us!
I've been volunteering for the past 3 years and it's still one of the highlights of my week. Everyone is super friendly and fun, laughter is always guaranteed."
**Call for short term volunteers**
At Cre8 we run an alternative education project called Learning Plus. We get referrals from schools to work with young people who severely struggle in mainstream education. Many of our referrals enjoy doing practical, hands-on tasks. Unfortunately at the minute we don’t have the expertise within our staff team to offer many practical sessions.
We’re looking for volunteers who enjoy making or fixing things to volunteer a couple of hours a week, for a short fixed period, to work on a specific project with a young person. This could be making a planter, some shelves or anything else – the limit is your imagination (and whether we can get our hands on the right resources!).
You would be working with a young person in our well-equipped woodwork shed and be accompanied by a fully qualified youth worker. You don’t need any specific qualifications just some experience of wielding a hammer or screwdriver and enthusiasm. We envisage a project lasting 4-6 weeks so it would be a short term commitment and each session is 2 hours long.

You would need to follow our volunteer recruitment process which involves an application form, references, DBS check and interview.
If this is something that interests you please get in touch: info@cre8macclesfield.org or on 01625 503740

We particularly encourage those that have a specific passion in one of these areas as the young people get easily inspired by enthusiastic volunteers...

  • Art, craft and making things
  • Vegetable gardening
  • Cooking meals & snacks
  • Mending push bikes
  • Supporting music workshops
  • Handyman maintenance
  • Organising donations of clothes and accessories for our Boutique - helping young people develop retail skills
  • Mentoring young people with practical skills eg woodwork
  • Giving Toolbox talks on practical matters eg managing money, managing relationships etc, based on your experience
If you're interested, what to do next?
  • Let us know your interest (phone the office on 01625 503740 or info@cre8macclesfield.org) we will put you in touch with the appropriate Cre8 project leader.
  • We'll organise a meeting to have a chat about volunteering and expectations, go through the application process and then arrange for a visit to a Cre8 project.
  • If you can commit to attending at least 50% of the projects' sessions - then we will help you complete the necessary safeguarding DBS check so you can start volunteering. Please note, having a blemished DBS certificate does not necessarily mean you won't be able to volunteer. We encourage you to speak to the project leader about this.
  • If you have other skills/experience you believe can help Cre8, let us know as we may have new projects in the pipeline.

EMPLOYEE VOLUNTEERING
Does your company encourage employees to volunteer your skills and time for a number of hours per year? or on a short term basis during a particular week or month?

If so, there are just a few steps you or your company can take to become a regular or one off volunteer to help Cre8 get in early and support young people who haven't always had an easy start to life.

Get in touch with the office at 01625 503740 or info@cre8macclesfield.org to talk about how Cre8 and your organisation can work together.
