The Building
Cre8 took over the Building in 2012. The Building was previously a derelict community building on Mayfield Terrace by the pond. There was no electric or any form of heating or lighting; some areas had been vandalised; there was water damage; rot in the flooring (and some subsidence!); and many other problems associated with abandonment and neglect of a building!
Cre8 has spent many, many hours and our own funds completely renovating the space. The renovation work has involved young people and adults from the community - sharing their practical skills and learning new ones. It means the work takes a lot longer than if we had employed external contractors, but the benefits of participation and empowerment definitely out-way the costs! You can read about some of the rennovation work on our news page, by clicking here
The Building can now be used for Cre8 projects, mainly Music and Project Grow's Grocery, as well as being hired out for community events. The Building has a fully operational music recording suite and practice rooms, as well as a large catering kitchen and a hall. Until June 2015 there was no mains electric or gas and the place is heated by log burners. After several years we managed to raise the funds ourselves so that the Building could be reconnected to the mains. It has been amazing and the possibilities for activities at the Building are now endless!!
